Of Eggcups and bowls

Yes, I'm on a bowl making kick again. Here are four 6 lb bowls. Well, two of them are 5 and 3/4 pounds . The other two are 6 and 1/4 pounds. It's kind of interesting how much of a difference half a pound can make in size. I know I keep posting photos of bowls that have been freshly thrown, but never any finished bowls. I will do my best to take photos of them.

Here are the eggcups that are glazed. Hopefully, they will get fired in the next kiln load. Will take photos of them and post!

September sale

As you can see from the picture above, I didn't really have a lot to sell this sale. This was taken on Sunday, but the only things missing are one big green bowl, one red and black bowl and one black bowl. There might be a few missing espresso cups too. Surprisingly, no ghosts sold. Ah well, I will have them for next year.

This just means that I have to make a lot more for the December sale. Tonight, I plan to make 4 six pound bowls. Hopefully, I will post what I throw tonight!

Egg cups take 2 follow up

So here they are, all happily trimmed. One decided to fly off the wheel and smash itself against the floor, so I only have 20 cups now rather than 21. I think I made 22 or 23 in total.

Just have to say, I think I've gotten a lot better with throwing off the mound. Making all those sake cups really helped.

My only issue this time was that while trimming, a number got a little distorted into rounded triangles because of the Giffen grip's grip. I was able to round them out again, but I'm wondering how that will affect the final product.

Trimmed Tree Woman

This is what happens when a shelf falls and intersects with a sculpture...

Oh well. I know I was most proud of this one. It was the beginning of me really starting to sculpt, but well, I guess she wasn't meant to have a long shelf life... sorry, couldn't resist.

Yes, I'm sad about it, but considering the week I had, this was the culmination of a crappy week. It can only get better from here, right? It better!

Egg cups take 2

There you have it. Egg cups take two. Last year, I made a few for a good friend and they were less than... good. So, after my sake cup making extravaganza from earlier this year, I revisited the egg cups. Some are definitely too big (shot glasses anyone?) and some might be too deep. Can't really tell til they are done and fired.

I threw these at the studio, and took them home. I was being very careful in placing them on the floor and taking corners easily. I even tried to slow down in a way that would not cause issues... However, momentum is a heartless bitch and when one forgets to put a DVD that is sitting on a jacket under said jacket, braking can cause DVD to fly forwards and land on top of some eggcups and knock others over...

When I got home, I used a rounded stick too to round out some of them. Smoothed some of the edges (some are definitely wavy now!) and hoped for the best.

They didn't look too bad this morning, but... well, I still have a ton of Glacia clay left and I do have to make some bases for the mushroom lamps, so I might make more of these little guys in the next few days...

Carved bottle and bowl

Carving again. When I first showed these off, I was asked if I was going to keep the throw lines.

Originally, I said yes. After getting these bisque fired, I changed my mind and sanded off the throw lines.

They are nice and smooth now.

In looking at my stock, I realized that I don't have enough big bowls. Actually, I have no big bowls. So, I threw some. These are quarter baggers i.e. 1/4 of a bag of clay each. They're roughly 6 lbs each.
